Taking on inclusion and diversity in the manufacturing industry
The world is always changing, how are you keeping up? See the goals of Seco Tools to increase inclusion and diversity. Our purpose is about supporting our customers and creating a better world. This is what we do every day. A continuous mission that never stops.
By 2025 we want to be the partner that inspires people to transform the industry. A company where we collaborate well and where we inspire and challenge each other. We are machining and metal-cutting experts, machine operators in our own factories, customer relationship builders, supply champions, IT wizards, service providers, and support heroes of many kinds. Different personalities. Different nationalities. Different age, gender, and competencies. This diversity drives innovation – and what unifies us is our shared values.
Our vision is about what to create long-term for customers, industry and society
According to a study by Gallup, in the United States, 15.9% of Gen Z, that is the upcoming workforce, identify as a member of the LGBT community and 9.1% of millennials identify as LGBT, this is the bulk of the current workforce.
We’ve talked about the importance of showing inclusion for all genders in the past and have celebrated the women that are in the industry as breaking glass ceilings in the manufacturing industry. As it pertains to pride month, Women are more likely than men to identify as LGBT (6.4% vs. 4.9%, respectively).
At Seco, we aim to widen our scope of employees and inspire people of all backgrounds and identities to join the manufacturing industry. We want to be a safe and encouraging space for all to come together to create great machining products and solutions.
According to McKinsey and Company, “additional efforts are especially needed in a world—and workplace—with the added health risks and isolation of remote working in the coronavirus era. We recommend specific steps that senior company leaders and human-resource professionals can take to ensure their organizations are safe and welcoming environments for LGBTQ+ employees.”
It’s important to work from the inside out when it comes to improving diversity and inclusion. There’s a known skills gap within our industry we are combatting but can’t stop there. Our future vision is to change the landscape of this industry and meet the future workforce and generations where they are at, on their terms, by adapting our expectations and choosing inclusion.
